After spending a number of happy years in a townhouse in Strathfield this couple with a 20 year old son decided they would like to build a new home without moving from the same suburb. With no new land releases , they decided to look for a run-down house that they could demolish and start again.
They found an old fibro cottage in South Strathfield and lived in it for a few years while deciding on which home design they wanted to build. They eventually chose the Michigan 12 from Bellmarch Homes because of its open-plan feel and because Bellmarch were only too willing to make changes to the house to suit the needs of the family.
The narrowness of the block in North Strathfield considerably reduced their home design options. They changed the rounded shape of the house to square as they thought it better suited the block.
Upstairs they opted for three large bedrooms rather than four smaller ones. They changed the facade from fully rendered to half brick and half render. Other changes included extra windows to the front of the house, a brick feature wall in the living area, bi-fold doors out to the backyard and timber instead of the original glass for the balustrade. |
