This small block at Hawkes Nest had water views but the old house on it left the owners with a number of issues to resolve. It wasn't big enough for their large family to enjoy as a holiday house on a regular basis. The house was also in need of repairs. Additional problems were that the house was situated in a flood prone area and it lacked satisfactory entertainment areas and outdoor living spaces.
They looked at the possibility of renovating and/or extending but decided that by far the best outcome would be to knockdown and rebuild. Craftsman prepared some sketches for the owners and they provided some of their own and together they came up with a custom designed home that suited both their requirements and their budget. The new home had to be raised approximately 1 metre off the ground to lift the floor level above the flood line.
The plans were approved by council in April 2008 and the new home was completed by Christmas. The owners ended up with a home with all of the main living areas and the master bedroom upstairs to take advantage of the water views to the front and the rear. They also had a guest bedroom and bathroom on the top level as well as a small deck to the front and a large deck for entertaining at the rear.
Downstairs there were a further two double bedrooms and a large rumpus family room, another large bathroom and another deck to the rear. The garage had to be designed to house the owner's boat as well as their car.
The owners were delighted with Craftsman Homes in building them a new holiday home that the whole family could enjoy.
