For over 26 years Masterton Homes’ display village at Warwick Farm (opposite the Warwick Farm Racecourse) has been Sydney’s largest and most popular collection of homes from one builder on display at one location.
An advantage of the permanent exhibition display village is that people know where to go to see the latest designs year after year. They can go and see the changing designs and watch the homes being constructed. Over the 25 year history of the Warwick Farm display village around 80 new home designs have been subject to knock down and rebuild.
Knockdown and rebuild is about so much more than trading an old home for a brand new one. The hidden benefits, according to Masterton Homes, are building practices which target substantial water and energy saving. Many typical older houses were built in times when chronic water shortages were not envisaged and the term ‘solar passive’ was not commonly considered in home building.
Jim Masterton, who perfected knockdown and rebuild over 40 years ago, says, “Whilst we realise the main motivation to build a new home in place of an old one is usually because people want more space or a better looking more functional home, we are pleased that Masterton KDR can deliver so much more as well. If, through smart design, we can deliver a home which is modern, functional, built to personalised specifications and lifestyle and is more water and energy efficient then we believe the benefits of KDR are not just cosmetic, they’re really worth it.”
